Welcoming the Stranger: A Biblical Mandate
Summary: Join us this Sunday as World Relief Sacramento shares how we can live out the biblical call to welcome the stranger in our community.
Hospitality is not merely a virtue in Scripture—it’s a command. Again and again, God calls His people to welcome the stranger, to extend care to the foreigner, and to embrace the outsider. In Leviticus 19:34, God reminds Israel, “The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt.” This is not just historical context; it is an eternal principle rooted in God’s heart for all people.
Jesus deepens this call in Matthew 25:35, saying, “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” To follow Christ means to see Him in the face of those seeking refuge, stability, and belonging. The early church lived this out, welcoming people of all nations into the family of faith.
In today’s world, this command is as relevant as ever. Whether it’s refugees, immigrants, or anyone longing for community, the church has a divine calling to respond with open arms. Welcoming the stranger is not about politics—it’s about obedience to God’s Word.
This Sunday, we have a special opportunity to learn more about this call in action. World Relief Sacramento will be visiting to share how they serve refugees and immigrants in our community. Join us as we explore practical ways to live out this biblical mandate and discover how we can make a difference. Your presence and participation matter—come be part of the conversation!
