Welcoming All: Standing for Love and Mercy
Summary: At St. Augustine’s, we strive to be a safe haven for everyone, boldly standing for love and mercy in a world often filled with hate.
Here at St. Augustine’s, we strive to be welcoming and provide a safe haven for everyone. We know that in Washington, D.C., new groups of people are being demonized daily. Will we have the courage to stand for love and mercy in a hate-filled world?
I invite you to think about ways that you can invite, welcome, and connect with the “other.” The Episcopal Church at the national level has proclaimed that it will stand with immigrants, with our LGBTQ+ neighbors, and with all those being persecuted because of who they are.
In this new column, I’ll be exploring ways that we can be brave and continue to expand our welcome here at St. Auggie’s. We’re going to start by putting the Episcopal Rainbow Shield on our website, so that everyone will know that they belong here.
Let me know what you think about that and other ways we might more explicitly invite those in need of God’s love right now.
Grace and peace,
Deacon Joanie+
