Recharting Your Course: Prayer Practices for Lent
Summary: Lent is a time to reflect on who you want to become, and exploring new prayer practices—like The Lent Project, Pray As You Go, or Lent Madness—can help guide your spiritual journey.
Lent is an opportunity to rechart your course. Check your direction. Who is the person that you want to be? What is one new habit you could form or one old habit you could drop that would help you to head in the right direction?
While I can’t help you figure that out, I would like to recommend some prayer practices that you might try during Lent. Sometimes a new prayer routine can move us from complacency into devotion again.
The first one is The Lent Project. https://ccca.biola.edu/lent/2025
This is a daily email that features a painting or piece of art, a song, a poem, and some thoughts for the day, ending with a prayer. I love this devotional. It will take about 30 minutes daily.
A second one is for those who want to walk and pray. https://pray-as-you-go.org/daily-meditation. This comes from a Jesuit group, and it is designed for listening while you walk. It features music, a reading, a meditation, and a prayer and the whole thing is about 45 minutes.
Lastly, just for fun, check out https://www.lentmadness.org/. This is a daily devotional that humorously pits two saints against each other in a March Madness style tournament. First up, Athanasius of Alexander vs Richard Meux Benson. What? You’ve never heard of him? That’s what this fun devotional is all about. Each day you get to vote for the saint you like best and they will move forward in the tournament. You can even order score cards. Here’s to steering the course and Lenten transformation!
