Letter From the Pastor
Jeremiah 31:25 “I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.”
Like a Cool Breeze
Summary: The Holy Spirit brings life to a weary soul.
I left my house this morning and needed to turn around and go back for a jacket. I went for a walk and a cool breeze blew on my face. After such a long hot summer, the nippy gust felt like ointment poured on a red-hot burn. It refreshed me and even healed my heat weary soul.
That breeze reminds me of Jeremiah 31:25. A cool breeze is refreshing but so is the blowing of the Holy Spirit. Whenever I am soul weary, the best way to regain strength is to seek the refreshing of God. Spending time with God is as refreshing as a mint jubilee. Spending time with God is satisfying and healing. A frazzled day can easily become a good day if I spend time in contemplative prayer. If I am having a bad day, I will often go into a quiet room and turn on my prayer app, Pray as You Go, and listen to the Lectio Divina in the Lectionary selection for the day. After just ten minutes I can face the world again.
Scripture gives the Holy Spirit many names, like Comforter, Helper, Spirit of Hope, Grace, Counselor, and Wisdom. All speak of the quality of God that brings refreshment and healing when we need it. The next time you are feeling exhausted, frustrated, overwhelmed, or angry, I recommend that you also go into a quiet place and practice your favorite prayer exercise to help refresh your weary soul.
May God refresh you and give you peace,
Pastor Anny+
