Creating A Safe Place

Deacon’s Corner

Creating A Safe Place

Summary: Join us for the “Safe Zone” workshop on April 26th to learn LGBTQ+ vocabulary and explore how we can create a more welcoming, affirming space for all people to seek God.

By becoming familiar with LGBTQ+ vocabulary and understanding some of the challenges facing this group, we can create a more affirming place for our “queer” neighbors to seek God.

If you’ve ever wondered why pronouns are suddenly so important, or if you have a grandchild who is trans, and you’re worried you might say the wrong thing, please join us for the “Safe Zone” workshop on Saturday, April 26th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Augustine.

The Diocese of Northern California has put together a brief curriculum so that we might gain the vocabulary and understanding to make these friends feel truly welcome in our congregation.

Kenny Pierce from the Diocese, and I will be facilitating this workshop for the people of St. Augustine and friends. By providing two leaders, one who is a member of the LGBTQ community and one who is a non-gay ally, we hope to make open conversation and tackle some of the questions we’ve been afraid to ask. Please sign up at the back counter, so we can get an idea of how many handouts to make and how many pastries to buy. If you don’t want to sign up, just join us! We promise to provide a safe environment for some great learning.
