Why does St. Augustine Church need this ministry?

Being a Lector provides an opportunity for lay people to serve by participating in worship services.

What do team members do?

  • Lectors proclaim the word of God

  • One Lector reads the First Lesson (normally a reading from the Old Testament) and the Psalms for the day

  • The second Lector reads the Second Lesson (normally a reading from the New Testament) and the Prayers of the People

Suggested Skills:

  • A good public speaking voice

  • Punctuality: follow the assignment schedule

Time required:

  • Preparation time: read lesson out loud before Church service

  • Reading during the service

  • Occasional meetings

Will I work alone or as part of a team?

  • Each Lector is responsible for his/her assigned readings.

  • The task is performed alone, but there are several Lectors on the team to give support
